These cards by Jost Amman follow the standard form of the 16th & 17th centuries what is most striking is the extraordinary beauty of the engravings. The kings are the only characters on horseback. The deck consists of 52 cards, traditionally divided into four suits of thirteen cards each (ten of which are numbered and the remaining three being the court cards).
